If you are visiting Wisley this weekend for the Taste of Autumn Event, you will find the trials team in the Marquee, in front of the restaurant, with an outstanding selection of vegetables and flowers from the trials field and model vegetable garden. You'll also be able to taste some Squash Soup alongside their stand a delicious creation made from the entries in the this years squash trial.

As well as floral and vegetable trials, the RHS also conduct fruit trials and regular assessments of top fruit and soft fruit in the Wisley collection with a view to selecting the best for the Award of Garden Merit.

This week started on a real high as four of us made our way to Chelsea on Monday. From 10am we were involved with RHS Plant Committee meetings. Often these meetings at Chelsea include discussion of plants bought to the meeting for interest and possibly award.

It is a very exciting time on the trials field at the moment, we are at our busiest period in terms of planting. The Delphinium Committee met on Tuesday to make their first assessment of the Delphinium Seed Trial. Some of the entries have started to flower and most are looking very vigorous, it will be interesting to note their performance in this second and final year, considering what a good display they made just 5 months after being sown last year! With the recent spell of hot sunny weather, more of the trials have begun to burst into flower. The Delphinium perennial from seed trial 2007-2008 has begun to flower and so have some of the entries in the Kniphofia 2007-2009 trial.

Back in 2007 over 250 entries of Phlox were sourced and planted at a site in Wisley Village. These were used as mother plants from which root cuttings were taken in December 2007 in order to grow on trial material that would be free of eelworm
