The Britain In Bloom competition is run by the RHS so here would be an appropriate place to discuss it, although I'm not sure some of your complaints can be blamed on the competition. There's nothing in the judging criteria about overhead wires or anything like that. Young people are being priced out of villages all over the country so even without Britain In Bloom success your village would almost certainly still have that problem. I've seen a lot of people say that dierama are difficult to transplant but I'm not sure it is entirely true. I've never had a problem with them. I don't think I've ever lost a plant while pricking them out or transplanting them into the garden. And I'm not particularly careful...

Do you think a hedychium pod would pass as a berry? I don't think mine will ever quite get enough sun to get ripened fruit though. I got ripe seed on a cautleya and would try and call them a berry because they are kinda squashy? I picked them and can't remember where I put them.. I grow quite a lot of arums but boring old italicum seems to get the best berries. Arisaemas get impressive berries too. I really love dianellas too but I think mine only managed about 2 berries last year. They are
