I have two blackcurrant bushes and I am wondering how to prune them. They are established bushes and they are quite large now but there are lots of barches falling down to ground level. I read on the net that I should take out the old wood which is darker but one site said take a third out and one said cut down to ground level... which should I do? Am I only to take out the very dark wood out as there is some mid-brown wood too plus should I cut back the branches that are falling to the ground? thank

Hello Yes 1 and 2 are the same tree, I thought I would do a close up of on of the branches and I took the photos mid last week. I thought it might be a Larch? Also some of the older branches have these little brown bumps on them where it looks there might have been cones and the birds seem to be pretty interested in them.

Here you go... some have these soft feathery and them some of the bumps have nothing on them at all. As I said the birds seem pretty interested in these tree and I have seem them pecking away at the bumps.

If you have a photobucket account or something like that then you can easily post the picture... I saw a post somewhere on this forum though that tells you how to upload pictures. I haven't been up to Levi myself but I would love to though especially in the autumn.

I would love to see some piccies if you could post them... Furtherst north I have been is Iisalmi and that was in the summer when we were eaten alive by mozzies. Where I live in the south it seems that summer was just a few short weeks and now autumn is really starting to get underway leading to snow hopefully soon.
