Awwwwwwww Digger! Such beautiful pups! You will be sad to see them go I'm sure! They look so warm and cuddly and fun! Have a lovely time in Harrogate....we're off to Scotland for a few days and I think my baskets will have had it by the time we are back. Its dry and breezy here in S.East. I think next year I will put more crystals in compost for the baskets.

Hi Ruff, I had to chuckle at your corn as it so reminded me of the corn I picked on Friday! We spent Bank Holiday Monday at Bennington Chilli Festival held in the grounds of Bennington House where you can wander around the gardens including the kitchen garden. I was astonished at the corn growing there as it was stumpy compared to what we have in our garden and the cobs were huge and very fat! I wish mine were as swollen!!! Nevertheless, my impatience got the better of me and one cob was harvested

Hi Digger... You can remove the scales???!!! I only take off the babbies from the base..... yeah, I know what you mean about the asiatics.... Hubby doesn't like the heady scent of the orientals and refused to help hunt and squich the lilly beetles when they were in flower because of the scent. Asiatics are still pretty though... Am wondering if I should get any Day Lillies.....? It's dry here in the south, not very warm anymore, bright and sunny y'day then overcast but dry. Back to work today so

Digger, you talked of growing on 'pips' from your original lillies.....what do you mean by pips? I was reading GW and they talked of lilly propagation by bulbils which I had never seen before until I was at Bennington Chilli Festival last week, and I saw bubils on their asiatic lilly. I was sooo tempted to harvest a couple of bulbils but thought against it. I dug up my lilly bed in April and found baby bulbs attached to some of the bulbs so I split them and replanted them. I guess they are the ones

Sue1002, just saw your pic of your Muscadet Lilly. That one is really beautiful, so pretty and delicate. I bought my lilly bulbs at Hampton Court last Summer and because it was in July they didn't flower til late August/September last year too. Having been in the ground all year, they were early this year and have long gone.... I got Mona Lisa and a lucky dip bag of lilly bulbs (has many asiatics in there than orientals though.). Oh, and talking of scarlet lilly beetle, I nver knew what they were

Hi, This may be a daft question, but why is it that you can never get a cut rose as a plant? Are there specific roses grown for cut flower use only? I've looked at many on-line rose growers sites, David Austin, Peter Beale, Harkness, Apuldrum......& more... but I can't find anyone that sells a Grand Prix Rose, or Aqua, or Mini-Eden. Grand Prix is a well known rose especially around Valentine's Day and I had Grand Prix and Aqua roses on my wedding day. I bought my roses at New Covent Garden Flower

Thanks Sue1002. I forgot about doing the nail test today when in the garden and got a bit too impatient..... I decided to harvest a cob (in fact it was the one I peeked at last week). After I'd de-husked it, it looked a cross between a giant babycorn and sweetcorn. ie not ready! The tip of the corn I ate whole after boiling and it was just like babycorn - bit tasteless though. The bottom bit with immature kernals was quite sweet and juicy and very tender. I think I will have to bite my hands and

Hi, I grew courgettes last year and the same happened to all four plants. The leaves were covered in white dust - bit like talcum powder. I just ignored it. This year, I've been careful to only water the base of the plant and not get the leaves wet - although it can't be helped when we get rain. When I've seen the odd leaf looking white and powdery, I just cut it off. There seem to be enough leaves on the plant anyway and it doesn't appear to affect courgette production. I try to be pesticide free

WOW! What a stunner Sue1002!!! So vibrant! It's gorgeous! Really pretty! My lillies have come and gone for quite some time now. Do they have early and late flowering? I had a giant 5'6" tall lilly - it was an asiatic so no scent. I forget which one it was as I dug up and re-positioned the lillies in their bed and forgot which was which!!!!! I think it may be "Grand Cru" which I bought from Woolworths late last summer in their clearance for £1! Hubby may have taken photos but I'm not sure how to post

Hello, I've not grown Sweetcorn before and it seems to be doing ok I think? It's "Jubilee" and I bought the packet on hols last Sept in Menorca. I sowed the kernals directly outside and germination rate was probably about 75%. Anyway, the cobs are swelling and the tassels are beginning to brown on the tips... How do i make sure the cobs are plump and well filled? I know the tips are not formed yet as I peeled back the husk and had a peek the other day - it looked like baby corn. The plants are about
