According to my friend, cutting off the shoot and allowing the plant to carry on growing would result in a 'solo' bulb. The shoot is discarded. I realise this is contrary to your view that it is a different type of garlic, but as I don't know any better, I'm going to try it out and see. Hi, I am new to posting here so please bear with me. I emailed a friend (who is from China) about 'Solo' garlic and he said that to get them, one has to cut the emerging shoot off once, early in it's growth. I am interested in this topic because 20% of my garlic were solo this year and I couldn't work out what happened to cause this.
