    With deadheading I was wondering if the laymans idea of a "mission accomplished" signal that the plant sends when it has seeded is for the whole plant or the region of the plant? i.e. if you miss the deadheads on a hard to reach section would that just stop that section flowering or the whole plant? If there are no such signals, is it just a case of the amount of food available for the plant can't cover flowering and seeding.     Our twins will be running round the garden come spring. I wonder how far people have gone with childproofing their garden? We have no pond. The shed will be locked. We have no Foxgloves. The main question is should you remove all plants with inedible berries? My plants have been kindly identified as Mahonia http://mygarden.rhs.org.uk/forums/t/23461.aspx and Hypericum http://mygarden.rhs.org.uk/forums/t/23450.aspx I suppose you could just remove the berries instead.     Personally, I agree and I don't really think anything needs doing. The wife gets a bit over the top with these things. We've found they try and scare parents into buying baby products they don't need and sterilising everything. Besides, I need some help with my weeding Read more..

    Thanks, it does look like a hawthorn. It would have to be a thornless variety. I'll look at the berries this weekend, as they're ripe now. In my picture the berries hadn't developed the black "hole" like in your link, but maybe that happens as they ripen. Read more..
