Just to let you know that over the next couple of days we will be 're-shuffling' the forum topics on the front page of the forums. This is just some housekeeping to bring some of the more popular topics to the top of the page and archiving older topics. We're also going to create a new area called 'Over the garden fence' which will house the main idle chat thread. This will probably be the biggest change, as currently the idle chat thread sits in 'bulletin board feedback'

Hopefully there has not been too much disruption today. The main idle chat thread is still in its old place (bulletin board feedback) and will be moved tomorrow. The idle chat folder (formerly under Gardening) is now under a new area 'Over the garden fence' and is called 'Over the garden fence'. The other main change is that the 'Topical' area is gone, and the folders that were under that have been moved to Gardening or Plants, except RHS Flower Shows, which is now under 'About

From Beetle: The description is not that extensive but the general trend of symptoms could be indicative of graft failure - the RHS databases contain many examples of this phenomena so it may be worth contacting them. Similarlly a gradual bacterial / fungal rot below the graft (or just below ground level) would also be a possibility as these would cause a gradual reduction in vitality possibly culminating in a final flourish before the rots finally and completely cut off the plants vital connective
