Thanks Susan, et al, Been out of circulation for a while, so apologies for no replies. Whilst its interesting that propagation can be from main shoot.....as its single bulb I'm a bit stumped as to how it can multiply.....hence my assumption it's from seed. Waiting for local LIDL to stock. Have to say I'm intrigued by this...never thought a gardening subject could be quite so opaque!

Thanks Linda....it may be that the only way I'll get the seed is to plant a LIDL bulb and harvest it. Hopefully it will be repeated in our local store.Somewhere I have a net address for a garlic farm on the Isle of Wight. I'll give them a try. Strange that there are myriads of Chinese exporters of bulbs but then the trail goes dead!

Thanks Bigboy, I'll follow your suggestions up. Its frustrating but I've found a huge number of Chinese exporters of the bulb which they describe as "single bulb garlic" or more commonly "solo garlic".....not a Latin name in sight! Last year either LIDL or ALDI were selling single clove garlic. It is a single bulb, no clovelets, about one and a quarter inches in diameter. Unfortunately they have [temporarily] stopped selling it. I researched a source on the internet and could find no reference other than major Chinese exporters of product, not seed. It seems it can only be grown from seed. There is an erroneous view on blogs that this garlic is an aberrant variation of 'standard' garlic. Not so. It's a longshot
