  • Re: Found this new Club, what do you think about it?

Forum post by Kesira on 27 Jul 2009

Perhaps I am being daft but i really don't see the problem. If you want a 'private' members only forum then go and make one. There areloads of free web forums around you can set up yourself. Yes, free. The thing is though, the RHS is a well known name that brings many like-minded people together. People do not want that which is why despite being able to go and join another 'private' forum they haven't. As to moderation... well, forums are not a new thing, they have been around Read more..

  • Allotments

Forum post by Kesira on 29 Jun 2009

I'm looking for a little advice on how to get a allotment please. I live in a fairly small village which is quite a long way from the nearest allotments, which are about 10 miles away. We are surrounded by fields and such, but there are plenty of areas of 'waste' ground which could be potential sites for the village. Is there some way to go about trying to get allotments for the village? I'm sure there are plenty of people locally, besides myself, who would very much like it. The Read more..

  • Re: Homeopathic Garlic Slug Repellant

Forum post by Kesira on 29 Jun 2009

2 whole heads of garlic boiled in 2 pints of water for a few minutes, if the level goes below 2 pints after boiling, just top back up to the 2 pints. To use. Add 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. If you do it during the daytime it will dry onto the leaves of the plants and will have a much better affect. Just don't do it at midday and burn the leaves! Hope that helps. On a side note, go easy on Boggy, the thought of homeopathy for plants IS amusing as it's normally a word used for people Read more..

Sounds like a good plan, Miranda. Thank you. I managed to get in touch with someone from the council earlier today, i'd had no luck before. They basically saiad there was nothing available and because we are so far away from the town it was unlikely we would get one anyway. She then gave me the number of our local councilor who informed me that if 6 people ask for one then they are obliged to do something about it. So, here is hoping! In the meantime your suggestion sounds like a better idea Read more..

Ouch, that's a lot of money! Mindyou Pennels is very over-priced at the best of times. A nice selection of plants etc, but far from cheap. I've had a lot of plants die that i've brought from there so I don't really bother anymore. In saying that though I can rarely resist popping in for a look.I found a nice little nursery in carlton-on-trent just off the A1 heading north. it's an old walled kitchen garden whicha couple have taken over. They have basically been working on restoring Read more..
