Hi, With help from my students, i look after our school garden. We have an outside tap. it is in two parts. It looks like an ordinary tap, when it s all together and working, but the part that you actually turn lifts off, leaving just an empty socket that the kids can't use to turn it on [or off]. Its great, as long as you don't lose the top.

I have alot of sugar and spice sweet peas growing well in various tubs and baskets. They are just coming into bud. The slugs rather like the taste of them - so they need some kind of protection from the slugs via pellets or repellent of some kind. I bought them from Thompson and Morgan as plug plants - so didn't have to worry about how many would germinate. Sweet pea germination is always a bit hit and miss as they have a very thick and strong seed coat. Nicking the seed with a knife, or rubbing

With permenant planting, in pots, I think the advice is to replenish the surface compost or soil each year [the top couple of inches or so] with new compost and then to use a slow release general fertiliser.
