I hope you missed the worst of the weather Roundelder, the pictures look shocking on the news. I quite often use my chicken stock in risotto too Richard. I'll bet you're looking forward to that tomorrow. I have made a beef casserole today with parsnips, leek and squash out of the garden and supermarket carrots and onion in it too. It is slow cooking at the moment and smells divine. It's good that you got your glasses sorted out Sue with a new prescription. It can be an expensive time

Nice to hear from you Digger! Welcome back. I expect Phoebe is getting bigger now, do you have any more photo's of her? The casserole is almost ready. I didn't put stout in it Miranda as I don't drink that and didn't have any in the house. I'm sure it would give it a nice rich flavour though. I am making mustard mash to go with it. I have sent some off for you Richard. The mushrooms are amazing Eva. You have got plenty there!

Morning All, the sun is also out here but there is a fierce wind blowing and there is a flood warning out for the river in Hereford. We always get flood warnings when Wales has a lot of rain over the mountains as that is where the river rises. I had to re-stake a couple of brussel sprout plants which were slanting to one side this morning too. My broad beans are all through too (how big are your broad beans now Sue?) I had a £10 voucher off Sainsbury last year when I complained about their fresh

Well done for having a go with the chicken stock Richard. I'm sure you'll enjoy the soup you make from it. Do you add those litle pasta pieces in with the veg soup Richard, to make a kind of minestrone? That's a very good idea to photograph your purchases if you need to complain. I must admit I had never thought of that although I did photo all the stuff that came out of my freezer after it broke down a couple of years ago for insurance purposes. Let's hope you don't need to complain

Oh dear, I hope it doesn't get any worse for you Roundelder. Fingers crossed. Enjoy your soup Richard. By the way, don't worry if the stock thickens and goes a bit 'jelly-like' when cool. That is supposed to happen. I don't think I mentioned that before.

It is already wild and wet weather here, but I think it is meant to be much worse 'oop north'. Good luck with battening down the hatches Roundelder. I hope you dont get any damage.

Oh my goodness Miranda, I hope you don't get too many falling branches, that can be very dangerous. I'm glad you can put them to good use though on your wood burner. I agree your kitchen must smell lovely Sue. I like cooked apple with roast pork or pork chops as well as in desserts. I like your mushroom log Eva. It is a very good idea and you should get a nice few mushrooms there by the look of it.

Not for nothing has this country been christened 'Rip Off Britain'. If there is a way of parting someone from their money then someone will think of it. The big multi-national chains are probably the biggest culprits. The same chain which falsely advertised the weight of your washing powder Roundelder, is always claiming fabulous offers - until you read the small print. A couple of weeks ago their chickens were on offer at a 'superb price' until you saw at the bottom of the offer

Hi All, I've been a bit under the weather for a couple of days, hence no posts! OH is on his way back from B'ham as we speak (at last) and everything is O.K. I'm like you Roger. I'm early to bed and early to rise (I think there's a rhyme about it) and I'm not good at all if I stay up past midnight! The weather here is lovely today. I am going leaf vacuuming in the sunshine this afternoon before heading off down our local hozzie to greet OH.
