    Hi Phil just started picking, seems they are late this year, have had some blossom end rot , all on the "Super Marmande", must be the knobbly shape that allows it, still can't grumble the rest are all growing away and setting loads of fruit, picked a few pounds this morning, and digging out the jars for pickle making, only managed 12 pounds of damson jam this year, so have a few jars left over, looks like tom chutney for boxing day with the cold pork.     Hi Vegswap We are growing a single mini cucumber this year in my wifes GH, so far we have had 6 fruits which we have eaten with great relish, at the moment there are about a further 5 small fruits, about the size of my little finger, and 2 ready to pick, approx 7 to 8" long and about 2" thick, this year I've set them up into a pot about 15" across, and the same deep, everyday commercial compost, from a supermarket, plus a handfull of chicken pellets, once the first flower came Read more..

    Hi Suze We had a monster of a plant at our previous home, a shady garden with it growing over a homemade pergola, the main stem after 6 years was as thick, as a mans bicep, and the 2" x 2" wooden structure had dissapeared into the trunk, I planted it hoping for a maintance free plant, what a mistake, vigorous was not the word, then I discoverd how to prune it, in late January I trimmed back the side shoots to 3 leaves, this is for flowers, in late July/August I trimmed back the whips, those Read more..

    Hi Susan Have a look on the "Hollygate" website, they do mixed hybrid echi seeds, the ones I grew year before last gave an almost 100% germination, lots of lovely seedlings to transplant, giving excellent plants with many different coloured blooms, if your ever down that way, its well worth a visit to the nursery, lots of cacti and succulents.
