Forum post by Snail wrangler on 07 Oct 2009

Hi everyone, I sowed my sweet peppers a bit late and although I've got some lovely big peppers they are showing no signs of going red. They are in my polytunnel (unheated) but I'm assuming they need more sunshine which looks as if it'll be in short supply now. I wondered if there were any tips or if I should give up and eat them green? Also I've read that pepers are biannual, so I was hoping to get a head start and keep them for next year. I've overwintered chilli peppers before Read more..

  • potato mix up?

Forum post by Snail wrangler on 29 Jun 2009

Hello, I planted two types of potatoes this year (both in containers and the ground), anya and mayan gold, but I stupidly didn't label them. I did the usual 'I'll remeber' thing but now I'm not sure. One lot have been flowering for a couple of weeks. The container grown ones were planted good friday (the ground ones a few weeks later) so I was thinking the anya might be ready soonish? Any idea which one might be which? I've had a lot of greenfly/black fly and scale insects this year. I was getting a bit worried, but over the last couple of days I've seen loads of baby ladybirds. The little monsters are now busy munching away on everything so maybe they were just a little slow on the uptake with the cold winter. This year I've been totaly pesticide free, in the past I've sprayed and then regreted it. I also planted lots of marigolds too, although they haven't flowered yet so I doubt it could Read more..

Thanks Boggy. To be honest that was might first thought too, but I put them out last week and I think it must have still been a bit cold as they looked very sorry for themselves and I ended up bring them back in. Then I started looking on the web and saw lots of photos of plants suffering from mosaic virus and got a bit conserned. Poor plants. I think I'll hang on a couple more weeks before planting any more and put them straight into the polytunnel once its warmer. Could it also be a problem Read more..
