It is 4.30 a.m. and as I couldn't sleep I have just popped up to the home to check matters of the H2O variety. On the way I had local radio Cumbria on and heard about the dire situation for the poor souls in Cockermouth. If you have never been there believe me, it is a lovely town and being a member of our local Rotary Club I have many friends with home and businesses there. I am not overtly religious, but I have to say that I am uttering prayers for their safety. Apart from the obvious personal

The A frame does sound like an excellent idea Richard, good luck with it. On the Tesco front, I did actually ring them. I never use 0870, 0845, etc. non geographical code if I don't have to as they cost me money. So I looked for the proper number on: http://www.saynoto0870.com as I resent paying for calls I shouldn't have to! Anyway, I did complain only to be told that it was "probably a glitch in the system! I think you must all be aware of my general demeanor in these matters so you

Ah yes Sue, but we have contract where you pay whatever per month and it includes all calls to normal geographical numbers. I resent even paying a local telephone call for something that is not my fault! We really are on the edge of our seats here in Cumbria at present. Massive problems with flooding expected in the county overthe next few hours. I have just sandbagged the entrance to our cellar at the home but I am fairly optimistic as I know the lay of the land reasonably well. The level of water

Our cook (well, one of them!) soaks a packet of cheap "broth mix" overnight and then boils it up with the chicken/ham/beef stock. Very easy and lovely in this nasty weather!

ee by 'eck, maybe my mile swimming certificate at school will prove useful in the next few hours! We have actually been relatively lucky in our exact part of the county as we have not had the torrential rain they have had elsewhere. The baited breath here in our "bit" is for how much of it will flow down stream(s) on to the Solway Plain. This was part of the rear garden at the home at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. I will be popping over to check "levels" during the next 12hrs

Very scary looking weather headed our way for the next 24 hours or so... "In the town, where I was born, there's a man, who sailed to sea" etc.etc. I am just going to look on Ebay for a Submarine of any bloody colour! Can't stop, there are hatches to be battened down I think...

Does Sasha eat the pips and all? Our Chloe absolutely loves (raw) apples but quite fastidiously leaves the pips which is probably a good thing: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090423075347AAZji6p She also eats cucumber! On a totally different issue but one that affects all of us, is inflation by stealth becoming more blatant? e.g. bought online: 2/10/2009 Tesco own brand Handwash powder 900g was £1.21 18/11/2009 Tesco own brand Handwash powder 900g was £1.21 This wouldn't be a problem

Hope your rabbit is okay Richard, did I perhaps read somewhere (in a previous life perhaps), that rabbits are more susceptible to dermatitis than other domestic animals? Anyway, I am sure he/she'll be fine. You know when I was a lad I took my rabbit to the vet and he told us to hoppit, but I think he was just out to make a fast buck... I tend to go to bed at a normal time but fairly frequently I wake up at about 3.00a.m. and get up because I can't sleep. The things is there are plenty of

Good morning all, thanks Sue, yes Chloe is good now. The minor op was actually to remove a polyp from the edge of her lower eyelid although when we took her to the vet we didn't know what to expect. To be honest he said it was really only a cosmetic issue and being a female we thought it as well to give her the option of removal. He simply clamped it "off" with a pair of very narrow forceps, no fuss from the dog, no anaesthetic actually I probably made more fuss than the dog who knew
