Thanks to all for your good wishes; I did venture out to do some weeding and tidying, sitting in one place with the sun on my back which helped. It is better today - at least I can stand up!! Just have to be careful not to bend or twist so the digging will have to wait. Read more..

Poor Digger!! At least you didn't put petrol in the paraffin heater!.........Hope your head gets better soon. I'm REALLY fed up; had looked forward all week to spending today in the garden with no work/interruptions/rain, but stupidly leant over too far to trim my camassias yeste4rday and my back went PING! So have been hobbling round emitting little screams whenever I move the wrong way. Am writing this in bed. GRRR!!!!! Read more..

  • Re: Disease of Eucalyptus leaves

Forum post by Hellebore on 26 May 2009

Hi Vicki, I'm just down the road from you; same problem with pink leaves and trunk, with brown spots on leaves. The new growth is silver though. Also I have tried to coppice it twice, but it refuses to shoot from the base, and quite honestly is nothing like as vigorous as might be expected of a gunnii. I have also noticed spots on some plants (but not all) nearby, viz a gaura, which had been very vigorous then faded away; a phygellus, and a photinia. Read more..

Thanks Miranda, I'll try to get OH to take a photo of it as I don't have a digital camera. Certainly a lesson for me not to leave things; the reverted branches are so high up I don't think we could reach all of them, so I expect we'll have to get someone in. It is dry but looking like rain here in Surrey. I've missed all the good weather as I had to practise for a concert on Saturday night, and yesterday I was recovering! It was a lovely evening - 'Nostalgia', so we played Read more..

Please could one of you tree experts look at my post about a tree size Acer Negundo from a week ago; it seems to have got pushed to the bottom of the list. I really don't want to do the wrong thing! It's labelled Acer Negundo reversion. Many thanks if you can. Read more..

  • Re: talking to plants

Forum post by Hellebore on 23 May 2009

Welcome, Ann M. I tell my plants what I'm going to do ie 'Ill just mow the lawn then I'll come back and feed/water/ tie in/prune you'. I congratulate them when they flower, as in 'Look at you, you pretty thing!'. ,or commiserate with them if they're not very well; 'Oh dear, you don't look too good...' . I'm quite sensible the rest of the time......except that when I take a stroll round the 'estate' to see how it all looks, I can't resist stroking Read more..

  • Re: Is this Tamarisk?

Forum post by Hellebore on 20 May 2009

Thanks Sue 1002, problem solved. I think security settings could be the problem as I am linked to my school's server and it has been known to upset things on more than one occasion! Anyway, tamarisk or not? Possibly, but it looks very upright to me; it's difficult to see the flower structure clearly, but could it be a cercis? I'm no good at pasting links but I just googled cercis and got loads of close ups of leaves and flowers etc which you could compare Roundelder. They are remarkably Read more..
