Hi I wonder if anyone can tell me what is wrong with my courgette plants. They are growing well and producing fruits (are they fruits?) but have lines of white spots running along the leaf veins. What is causing this and do I need to do anything about it?

Thanks for the advice Sue. I don't have a cold frame but I do have a couple of plastice grow houses, could I use these to harden off in by unzipping them a bit more each day?

Hi all, hope you are enjoying the weather. I planted some cosmos seed indoors on a sunny window sill about a month ago. They have grown really well and are over a foot tall but only 1 has started to bush the rest are just going straight up. Should I pinch them out to encourage bushing or just plant them extra deep when I pot them up? I was thinking about putting them out this weekend, is this too soon?

Hi - it may seem daft to be asking this question so early in the growing season but is there anything that can be done with spent compost? I am growing a lot of my veg in in containers and with all the flower containers I am going to be left with hundreds of litres of compost at the end of the season. It does not seem very 'green' to send it to the dump!

Hi sue Yes I think you are right, best to leave well alone. It is my own fault really, I am new to growing fruit and veg and I have got a bit carried away and have so many seedlings to plant I have neglected other things. I am a bit worried, everything I have sown has grown so well I can't help wondering when the inevitable problems are going to start appearing!! Sorry to hear from idle chat that you are an able to garden this weekend - hope you are better soon. Elaine

Hi - a good way to use courgettes is to grate and add to meat mix for enchilladas etc. If you don't use too much they just bulk out the minced meat and it is a good way of disguising the veg if your kids don't like veg much - make them as spicy as you like! Elaine D

Hi all on this lovely Good Friday morning- let's hope it lasts! I bought 3 bare root fruit trees (cherry, plum and apricot) back in January and as the ground was too hard I put them in large pots intending to plant them in the ground in early March. The thing is they are still in the pots and growing really well. As they are all dwarf varieties and could be grown in pots anyway would it be best now to leave them in the pots until then autumn and then re plant them or should I re plant them now
