  • Ground Elder Nightmare

Forum post by Lynsey on 15 Oct 2009

Was just wondering if anyone knows of any miracle solutions for getting rid of ground elder? I've dug up a lot in the last week or so from a flower bed but I can see that it spreads under our lawn. I read somewhere that it keeps regenerating if you leave any in the soil (even the tiniest pieces) and I really don't want to start digging up the lawn to get rid of it. If I put some kind of weed killer down I'm guessing it will kill the lawn as well. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks Read more..

Thanks for the info Miranda, I might have to look in to that one. Only problem is, I would probably become too attached and wouldn't want to give it back at the end of the day! [:'(] Read more..

  • Ash Tree

Forum post by Lynsey on 05 Oct 2009

Hello everyone, I have another question relating to an ash tree in the back garden of my new house. I thought it was an attractive tree and planned to keep it but when I asked a relative who is a professional gardener he said I should definitely have the tree removed because they can grow very large. However, when I told the story at work, they said I was mad to remove the tree. So I am very puzzled about what to do. It is at the back of the garden and away from the house but I am planning to erect Read more..

  • Re: Sweetcorn ready yet?

Forum post by Lynsey on 26 Aug 2009

Doesn't look ready to me yet Miss Flax. I may be wrong but I waited for the tassels on the top of the sweetcorn to go alot darker than this before picking (very dark brown). You can test them but peeling back the top bit by the tassels and having a look at the kernels, if they are still white and a bit small then they are not ready. You can also push a fingernail in to the kernel, if it produces a milky juice then it is ready. Hope this helps Read more..

  • Butternut Squash

Forum post by Lynsey on 28 Jul 2009

Hello can anyone help on a question about Butternut Squash. I planted mine back in March (I think) indoors and they went out in to the allotment around about May. They are doing really well, about 10 now on two plants, but I was wondering when they might be ready to harvest (unfortunately I have lost the seed pack) - one is completely orange..... but I think I should probably be waiting until Autumn - does anyone know? Many thanks :) Read more..
