Hi everyone. Gosh I haven't been on here for ages - what with the long and late winter and my poor Mum is having some major health problems at the moment which has seen me spending an awful lot of time on the M25 and other motorways travelling between Kent and Somerset. Anyway, we are trying to fit some gardening in too now the sun has finally come out and we have broad beans in the ground and some red and white onion sets in too. We managed a uick visit to the garden centre yesterday and I even

I was recommended by a pretty experienced gardener to sow aquadulce now for early cropping - he is fairly local to me so presumably he knows our general climate. Thx Sue I will pot them up and pop into the greenhouse and see what happens.Glad you had a great wedding day.

Hi there - have been awol for a few months due to family things and not much going on in the garden but the new year is here and the fingers are beginning to green up again. I have bought some early broad beans loose so looking for your best suggestions. Mildish climate here but inclined to start them off in pots but do I soak them first. Any suggestions from you guys gratefully received. Thanks.

I also wonder if your mint is a bit 'crowded out' I have grown mint in containers once before and it doesn't take long before there is more root matter than compost in the container. May be worth thinning it out next time before it gets to this point.

Yep I agree with AlexS - use an oversized bowl, soak the leaves in cold salt water then lift them out of the water, rather than tipping out, should leave the bugs and bug poo behind. Then rinse everything out of the bowl and fill with fresh water - use to rinse the salt water off your leaves, and again lift the leaves out of the water rather than tipping out. If you're still seeing debris at the bottom you can rinse several times like this till nothing remains. (I omit the salt when washing salad

I have done this in areas with some success but it does take patience. However, if it is a very small area I would be tempted to roll the turf back on one side and put the soil underneath then re-lay the original turf back on top - this is something else I have done successfully. It depends on the area and also how much you are trying to raise the lawn by.

I read somewhere late November for tulips to go in. Not sure I would dig them up but maybe put some more in just in case.
