Thanks for that Mike, generally that is what I try to achieve. However, the thought of spending the next forty years of annually building a support frame work at the front of all the boarders (as well as for more worthy specimens at the middle and back) does not really appeal to me; I have already been doing it for 10 years! I think I need to bite the bullet and find an alternative and gradually replace this very legging rangy variety.
The boarders are looking at there best at the moment – or should be! Many of my boarders are edged with the common pink form of Geranium nodosum, unfortunately at this point every year they flop everywhere so I usually end up chopping them back in the hope of getting a second flush of flowers and more compact foliage, but it does look a bit awful for a few weeks. I really must replace it. I cannot continue to be lazy and allow the same problem to present itself year after year. My garden is 1 .5
