Thank you for the advice. Things are looking up. Literally. Four of the Tall Single sunflowers are now over 8 foot tall and one is 8 foot 10 inches. Two of the blooms are good. I think the oners surviving best are the "Irish Eyes". I also planted Autumn Beauty and Paquito and Teddy Bear. All not so good. There may be another common denominater in that they were planted in various ways. Soil contamination reminded me of when we first moved here 36 years ago my then little son grew carrots

I planted a whole packet of sunflowers, 5 different kinds, and after giving a few away I am left wth 76 plants from a few inches tall to over 7 foot and they all look fine until they bloom. 21 have bloomed over the past week and many of them have taken one look at this world and shrivelled up and died. Since planting in compost in various kinds of little containers and then onto the actual garden soil they have been through hot, cold and wet weather but I cannot understand why they look so good and

I dont hold with rudeness or flauting the law but there are a couple of points to remember before reporting anyone. First not everyone can have a meter. I was declared unsuitable for "meteorisation" and photos were taken. I tried to argue this as I am a single occupier and a meter would be better for me financially. I do get a very small reduction now. Secondly I also found out that as I am disabled I am exempt form the hosepipe ban. Yes, I do use the hosepipe to water flowers even during

I have a similar problem and I have been reading up about Rosa rugosa and I am almost decided to have a row of a rose called Wild Eric along an ugly fence my neighbour has put up. I am informed that this rose can be almst neglected and will grow to 4 or 5 foot. Maybe if the rose idea is nice enough your neighbour will cut down his leylandii so he can see your rose.

I have a pretty little weed that grows in my front garden and a lovely lady lives nesrby who knocks on my door to tell me I have Lady Margarets slipper in my garden. She is referring to a weed that creeps and has smallish yellow flowers that have petel thast appea to me to have one petal plus a bulb on each bit. I have left my front garden to "meadow" but it just looks shabby and unkempt but this little flower makes it worth it. My aim is to tell people who tell me to clear up my garden

Thank you so much Silver Surfer; guess what! I live in Wimbledon. So now I know the old lady was not wrong. I have not seen her this year and it was thinking about whether she is still "with us" that made me get on with identifying this little flower. I have looked at photographs and it is definately Birds foot trefoil otherwise known as lotus corniculatis otherwise known, as you have found out; specifically in Wimbledon, as Lady Margarets Slipper!!!!! Anyone dares to have a go at my scruffy

I have bought some organic flower food and I gave all of the some about a month ago. Some are so crumpled they look nearly dead and others have just started crumpling. Is ther anything I can do?
