  my house has no mains water so i have a lot of experience of wells! do you have an electrical supply on site? if so, you could have a submersible pump and trench an outflow to a tap. then you could seal the top of the well (ours has a standard manhole type cover) - this would save the need for raising it and adding other safety measures.   I have a weeping fig in a pot that has outgrown its space (roughly 8 foot high now, and i seem to cut feet off it each year!) I'd like to keep the pot. I moved it out of the house into a cool conservatory several years ago, and it has grown into a very strong plant. (It is used to around 7 degrees C minimum in winter and 35+ in summer.)
