my house has no mains water so i have a lot of experience of wells! do you have an electrical supply on site? if so, you could have a submersible pump and trench an outflow to a tap. then you could seal the top of the well (ours has a standard manhole type cover) - this would save the need for raising it and adding other safety measures. It all depends on how much you want to spend. i find well maintenance is not cheap - in fact, maybe more than mains water charges but i am also aiming for drinking

I have a weeping fig in a pot that has outgrown its space (roughly 8 foot high now, and i seem to cut feet off it each year!) I'd like to keep the pot.
