I don't think you should worry too much about the leaves, they die down at this time of year anyway. Make sure you cover the crowns with some compost and perhaps straw or braken over winter. They will almost certainly be fine next spring. Remember that in the first year be spareing with pulling to allow the plants to establish. a-a

Hi Tim, absolutely 100% with 'headfullofbees' Scarlet Emperor are hard to beat. I tried St.George this year, very pretty red & white flowers, prolific crop - but no taste! - Luckly I also grew Scarlet Emperor in a neighbours garden, so I still had nice tasty beans, and a 1st at the town show!! I have to say I'm tempted to try Moonlight next year as I have heard many favourable comments about that variety. a-a
