Hi Miranda/Sue/Digger-- It is a good thing my OH hasn't a clue how to use a computer (I am a Novice but learning) otherwise he would discover my Plan! Then it would be onto---- Plan B:- I would sow the Tomatoe seed a bit later than normal! and say they are late in germinating this year. Plan C:- Just give up-- Smile and say "Can I do the Donkey work and you do the Pretty work" The only Donkey work at the moment is mowing a very small lawn! Our sons do the hedge cutting and any other hard jobs. OH Read more..

What a good idea Digger! Never thought of that for a Water Butt. We are fortunate enough to have a good supply of water (Keilder Dam) but Rain Water is like liquid gold for some plants that like and need rain water. Will have to try your idea out.--Fushia Read more..

My OH says I do all the 'Pretty' work and he does all the 'Donkey' work! which I suppose is quite true. As for our struggle for the greenhouse --as I do all the seed sowing and pricking out etc before OH takes over I have this devious plan (but dont tell him) As I usually sow the Tomato seed and tend to the plants in the early stages before they get 'taken over'-- I try to prolong the time-- until I am ready to leave the greenhouse to him!! But it is still a hassle- I end up with half a length of Read more..

Hi, everyone, We have had two lovely warm sunny days it feels more like summer again. The garden is looking so much better after all that rain we have had over the last few days. The flowers have picked up nicely and the flush of flowers are much better than they were when it was very hot and sunny! Gosh we do complain, when it rains or when there is a heatwave--we are never satisfied! The days are drawing in now with a definate autuminal feel to the air in the evenings. The greenhouse is OH's domain Read more..

Hi, just practising posting photograph on B B . I have found putfile much easier than photobucket (I hope). Digger this is part of my little vegetable patch. It is twice the size shown because I couldnt get at an angle to show the length of it. As you can see I just have the Runner Beans/one or two Cabbages and the row of leeks by the fence left in it. The netting and rose cuttings are to keep those cats off the soil when they try to use it for a 'toilet' Pathetic isnt it when we have to go to such Read more..

Hello Miranda, Forgot to thank you for your tip -"put thorny cuttings " to stop the cats leaving parcels. When I pruned the Rambling rose, I cut up some of the stems and laid them all over the vegetable patch--Up to now -no more parcels- and I hope they think our garden is not very inviting place for them. Hello everyone, Just 'picked 'my Cooking Apples' (Arthur Turner) and Stewed some for the Freezer. I dont usually harvest them until September but as I was passing the tree a couple fell off. I tried some of the apples with the 'twist' test and sure enough they were ready for harvesting. The seasons seem to be topsy-turvy this year, I managed a good clean crop- no codling moths etc. I am now thinking of getting another tree just like this one which has been growing in a container for the past 15 years Read more..
