Conifer shredding make good pathways but even if stacked for three months to allow tannins etc to disperse (as they should be before being used as mulch) have no real use on an allotment. Good for your hedges and shrubs at home though. Boggy Read more..

No, two glasshouses would be better. And if you can run to range of good coldframes all would be perfect. Boggy Read more..

Red Alert, small but not quite cherry, but most definitely bushy and low growing has been outstanding for me, grown under a polythene cloche and kept free of blight with careful spraying: http://www.thompson-morgan.com/vegetables/vegetable-seeds/tomato-seeds/tomato-red-alert/812TM Boggy Read more..

Glasshouses retain more warmth by allowing warmth from the sum in but blocking outgoing infra red radiation. As growth is directly proportional to warmth crops grow faster in glasshouses. Plastic houses whether tunnel or otherwise tend to be cooler. This does no much matter in summer when ample warmth is available but is crucial at other seasons and especially if you heat your greenhouse. Always go for a glasshouse if your pockets are deep enough. Boggy Read more..

The Bogweevil has no trouble in this respect - he seldom sees them again when emptying the bin and never once the compost is incorporated. Boggy Read more..

Dig in rotted manure at one or two bucketfuls per square metre or add as a mulch 5cm deep. Nutrient level is like all rotted manures very low so no worries. Boggy Read more..

Yes, just like celery sticks, and any small plants too wee to cook can be left to go to seed and stems used for flavouring in spring and summer or left to form seeds collected for flavouring. Probably too woody for eating but fine for adding flavour. Boggy Read more..
