I think I would plant them up into pots and put them somewhere sheltered outside. I would worry about drying out and/or mould leaving them in the fridge! Hope this is of some help. Read more..

  • Re: RHS level 2 is Self Study an option?

Forum post by Haze on 04 Dec 2012

Good advice from Hortaddict there. Just as an aside, if you are keen on plants and know the basics, you know more than the majority of people who would want your services. Armed with the RHS Gardening Encyclopaedia in your car, you could probably start your business before you have completed the course. Read more..

Hi, I do think it is possible to self study this course but I would recommend that the practical part needs to be college based. Some colleges do weekend courses to prepare you for what the examiners are looking for. Get yourself the reading list for the course before you buy any more books, the one you've bought is great but you may need something a little more indepth. Hope this helps. Read more..

  • Re: Should you cut back Sedum spectabile and if so when?

Forum post by Haze on 09 Nov 2012

Hi, sedums are tough as old boots. You could cut off the flowering stems now or leave them till early spring, it really won't matter. To stop them flopping they may need to be divided in the spring. The center sometimes gets a bit woody and the flowers then flop outwards. Just split them with a spade, discarding any woody bits and replant the pieces left. Hope that helps. Read more..

Hello. I see that you still haven't received any advice so I will do my best. I garden for a living so I can give you the same advice I would give my customers. It's always difficult when we're giving a well meaning gift that presents a bit of a challenge! I would not cut the main stem at 2m. If you did, it would take up far more room than a fully grown tree! You would have to walk around it, whereas if you raised the canopy as it grows, it only takes up airspace. You could then selectively Read more..

  • Re: Cell trays

Forum post by Haze on 14 Sep 2012

Many thanks for the replies. I'll check out that company kaydee. The trays I'm looking for aren't on ebay, perhaps they are just too old fashioned! You could use them year after year, the plastic was so robust that you could poke a pen in the holes to release the plants without damaging the tray. I might be looking for something that doesn't exist anymore but thanks for the suggestions. Read more..
