Maiden trees are about £20 but price varies greatly by supplier and generally garden centers cost more. You can get real bargains from Ebay but you don't get the reliability and guarantee of long standing nursery companies. None the less some cheaper trees can be very sucessful. Lidl sell fruit trees Very cheaply sourced I think from Germany, I have peaches and cherries from them that are doing very well. These are only seasonal offers so look out for them. (3 for £10) I think.

Hi Cherami. All the fruit you mentioned are reproduced by grafting cuttings onto a parent rootstock. If you took a cutting from a fruit tree it would probably grow without trouble but it WOULDNT be identical to its parent. Grafting is an art best left to those with the time, patience and access to the multiplicity of stocks. I do think a fruit tree is a lifetime purchase and they are not really expensive if viewed as such.

I have watched with interest the rising availability of these plants but my own experience is very limited. Having had a germination failure of some very expensive cucumber seeds and with time running out I bought a grafted cucumber and was very pleased with its results. I am not sure however that you can Ever get value for money paying £5 or so for each plant plus all the other costs. I am familiar with the supposed benefits and I ask, even if all the claims are true, are they worthwhile. I am of

Thank you Juliska. Following your response I did what I should of done in the first place and looked back in previous posts. There seems to be alternate views. The bogweevil thinks it is all about late planting but certainly others take your view. It seems strange that identical plants side by side in the same bed have reacted differently. Never mind I will try again next year.

Those questions ARN'T answered in previous posts. This whole thing is twaddle. Think about it, what is the main constituent of grassclippings.....Water.....What breaks down this 'secret' resin.......Water, so the whole thing is inheranly untenable. Show us the science, or don't waste peoples precious time with your daydreams.

Hack them out with a mattock. leave to regrow and then chemically treat the area. Repeat until they have gone. No quick answer I am afraid
