    Yep, using a spade, chop it into manageable pieces, each with some good roots attached. Replant the ones you want to keep and discard (or pass them to friends?) the rest. Plant them about 2 - 3 feet apart into well prepared soil so that the tip of the new crown is about 1" above the surface of the soil.     Earlier this year I planted a Small, bare rooted, Victoria Plum tree. It is thriving, and now has about 5, 6-8ft long wand like branches and is in full leaf. I believe the correct procedure is to reduce the length of the branches in June by about 2/3rds. Can anyone please confirm this? Read more..

    Thanks for the prompt response. The tree was a brand new bare rooted dwarfing/bush stock planted in March this year. I was under the impression that I should prune the tree annually in June to avoid silverleaf?? Read more..

    No doubt about it, Danish Oil is a first rate product but in reality no better at the preservation of wood than Linseed Oil which is a fraction of the cost. Read more..

    Coming from East Anglia I was always told to plant my Runner Beans on May 13th. I guess if you planted the seeds on January First in the right conditions, they would sprout, but would they survive and thrive? I doubt it. Read more..

    There is a rather nice, very hardy, Hydrangea which will accept North Facing conditions. I had it on a house in Suffolk and in no time at all it had covered the wall. Read more..

    Have you tried "Dog Rocks" ? I havent tried them but I was reading about them on a doggie website recently. You place them in the Dogs waterbowl and they release beneficial chemicals which reduce the amount of damage when a dog pees where he shouldnt. http://www.dogrocks.co.uk/ Read more..

    How about introducing a modest shallow pool or wet area in your garden? It would not take too long for your local amorous toads to locate and within a very short time you will have a home made supply of slug eaters. Read more..
