Growmore thank you for the trouble you have taken with this. I am grateful to have your very expert advice. Can you please advise me about the tree roots. I don't really think there is room to dig a big hole. My friend's logic for planting facing North is that many plants, and particularly Clematis, like to have their feet in the cold and when they grow the plant and flowers will automatically grow towards the sun. What do you think? Thanks for help poppikin

Can someone please give me some advice about planting a Clematis to climb up a tree. I have a beautiful Clematis well established in a pot and probably about 5 years old. I am concerned about the tree roots and also friends have said it is essential to plant a Clematis on a particular side of a tree but are arguing whether it is South of the tree or North. Thanks poppikin

Do I just put them in compost in the pots or do I need to add anything else? Do they need watering now and or later? Very many thanks. poppikin
