  • Re: Planting on a sunny slope

Forum post by kaydee on 21 May 2013

We have just planted up a steep slope in our local community garden with sedums & sedum-acres. There are several different varieties & they spread together quite quickly to form a 'tapestry' effect. They like sunny dry conditions. You should find them at your local garden centres. Best K. Thank you for your good wishes for our fund-raiser Clematis. We did very well considering the rain we had. Krissy, I think our greenfly must be a hardy variety here. I cut some hellebore seed heads to make up some of the table decorations only to find they were wick with aphids! Nice today though - dare we hope? Best K Read more..

Yes, always seems a bit of a hiatus after the spring flowers have finished. For me here I find Iris fill the gap well. Loads to choose from. Sure I've seen a liquid slug killer you dilute & water in - it might suit your soil better. Best K. Read more..

It is officially announced in our local paper this morning that we have had the coldest April since 1986. I suspect May is going the same way. It is our annual Village in Bloom fund-raising coffee morning this weekend & we always have Aquilegias in the table decorations. There are none to be had this year, not even buds. Read more..

I've just looked at the BBC forecast for our area & for around the next eight days or so we are promised heavy rain showers, strong winds & overnight frost - what I would normally expect here in April. If I can't get outside I may be reduced to doing some housework. Please No! Read more..

Not good Halesowenmum. Even in Dundee Botanic Garden there are lupins with good leaf growth now. And that's a cold place at any time. Think of it as a shopping opportunity? Read more..

We are maybe just going through a bad phase. I'm sure I read somewhere there are sun spot cycles of around eleven years & this affects the weather trends. Hard to know what to believe on global warming. Read more..

You could think about what fruit & veg varieties you like which are more expensive to buy.Things like aubergines & french beans, less well known salad crops or herbs. They would be ok in trugs. Make sure everything is cleaned before you start. Any chance you could take up just one slab to plant a vine? Read more..
