Do not under any circumstances put snails in your pond! Apart from introducing infections into your pond they breed indiscriminately and can literally infest your pond. Do you have a UV in your filter as this will help kill off algae that causes green water, if you have filament algae the extract of Barley straw will help. When the weather gets cold you will find a lot of this algae will die off so next spring will be the best time to start any treatment.

When moving to a new house with an established garden wait one whole season to see whats in it, if neccessary make a plan and mark each plant on it. A few years ago I was give a few Raspberry plant by a retired farmer friend and stuck them in a little used part or the garden near the compost heap. I have had a few raspberries over the years but nothing much, this year they have sent up a lot of new shoots all around the bed and even on the gravel path. What I need to know is should I leave the shoots in place and hope they fruit or carefully dig them up and replant or dig then up and dump them as they will never fruit

I have been fighting this back door advertising on the RHS forums since I joined. I find it tottally unacceptable that any company can use these forums for advertising and it destroys the gardener to gardener exchange of ideas and experience which these forums are based on. Sand will not provide the coarseness required to open up the soil, why not have a look at pea shingle if small enogh it may do the trick
