My Garden » philip99a
I'm what a more diligent friend calls an "erratic" gardener. But this year I have put in a lot of work and the garden is looking great. Very small north-facing city centre garden heavily overshadowed by two enormous lime trees! The trees are great to look at but suck every bit of moisture and nourishment from the soil. So I have an automatic watering system and also dig in lots of my home-made kitchen compost plus other feeds. The results are OK though the plants do tend to put on a lot of leaf with not-very-generous flowers :-( I also have a paved sunbaked back yard which I fill with pots and water assiduously. In a dark corner I've dug up some paving slabs and started a fernery with some success. I have a steel balcony outside my bedroom and usually have a couple of growbags out there each summer. This year I've planted two varieties of cherry tomato, a courgette, basil and mixed salad leaves. The courgette doesn't look great (slightlywhite powdery leaves) but the rest are OK. I like orchids inside the house.
