  • re: Helping out the nesting blackbirds 03 May 2014 10:20 AM

Good question, Eva. I don't know the answer, but maybe it's that the birds already out of the nest are considered a more urgent matter than those still in it, because they're expending more energy. Or maybe they're more visible, or closer to the parent bird. It would certainly be interesting to know for sure.

    Me too, Phot's!

Pushkin, go and look in your garden and see if the same thing's going on. It would be really interesting to know!

  • re: A stoat visits the garden 22 Apr 2014 12:11 PM

Good points, Snark. If I find another dead stoat, I'll notify DEFRA.

  • re: Snail racing 22 Apr 2014 12:10 PM

As children, me and my brothers once held a snail race on the steps of a hotel in Marrakesh. We had loads of them that we'd found in the plants growing around the front door of the hotel and set them off, a few to each step. The hotel staff were not impressed.

I believe it was loft insulation, jc. It was right at the bottom of the pile and shouldn't have been there in the first place.

  • re: Wasp nest July 22nd 27 Jul 2010 08:38 AM

Thanks, Mike. We're looking forward to dissecting it when the wasps are done with it!
