About Me
Early retiree [yippee!], gardening on 2/5 acre site in rural development. Builder [the b*****d] scraped off and sold topsoil. Apart from usual rubble and hardcore, I have appalling drainage with clay hardpan approx 2ft down. Its grey and smells and have been advised its 20,000 year old glacial mud called macamore, from when Ireland and Britain were divided by a huge glacier which terminated in south Wexford.
Grow veggies, fruit, shrubs and flowers. Small greenhouse.
Doing all I can...French drains, local horse manure, deep digging, raised beds, liming and gypsum. Unfortunately its taken me over 3 years to fully appreciate just how big a task it will be to get the soil right.
