I'm a very keen gardener and when I became a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind people said to me you can't have a nice garden and a dog. When our first pup arrived, a 7 week old labrador x golden retreiver, we had to provide a section of patio slabs and gravel as a 'spend area' for her to be taught to use this on command as it's easier to clean up. She picked this up very quickly and I was allowed to let her into the rest of the garden once she'd been to her 'spend area'. She ran in the flower beds and I started saying "No" and "Ah ah" not really expecting to preserve my garden but now she bounds round the lawned areas and avoids all other areas! I'm not sure I'll be so lucky with other pups but at the moment have the best of both worlds because she's lovely to have around when I'm in the garden.
