Eschscholzia californica, Phot's? I love those.

That sounds like a good way to relax! Hmm, haven't had a G&T for ages...

Hope you can find a decent car, Sue! When I was little we were told that green cars are bad luck because 'the fairies don't like it'. Only ever had one green car and whilst it didn't bring any bad luck, it was pretty rubbish and we didn't have it for long. Don't like red cars, as it never looks right. They always get the shade wrong somehow. Even so, we've had several red cars.

I've put some new garden pics up: http://s249.photobucket.com/albums/gg218/Miranda_broughton/garden/ - everything is growing so fast!

I've got some asparagus pea seeds - wonder what I did with them. Is it too late to sow them?

I don't blame you for relaxing in the garden Phot's, what is the new job you have?

Lovely pics Miranda, your courgette leaves are huge compared to mine but then mine is in a pot.  I like your hat, it will act as an umbrella too if you get caught out in a showerWink

I've got a poor blistered finger, I took a dish out of the oven, turned over the contents and forgot to put the oven gloves back on before picking the dish upEmbarrassed

I think you're a bit late with the asparagus peas, Phot's. They're generally started April/May time. You could still give it a go, though.

Yes, the courgettes are amazing. They just keep getting bigger! They are in one of the beds that I mucked and covered with straw last autumn and it does seem to have worked out well.

Oh you poor silly person, Sue Left Hug Hope your burn gets better quickly - put some lavender oil on it, it really helps. Years ago, I baked some potatoes and put a knife through each one to speed it up and when I took the first knife out, I forgot to put a glove on and there was a nasty sizzling sound Sad

I wear a uniform, but it's modern (RN No 3 and Nos 1s for special occasions in case any matelots are following this thread) The No1 uniform is quite fancy, but we only wear that occasionally, the normal one is a white shirt (with epaulettes) and black trousers or skirt, plus a cap (but we don't have to wear that. )

There are old fashioned costumes for special events, but we don't have to get dressed up (at least, that's what they told me!)

I don't mind wearing a uniform as I don't have to worry about what to wear in the mornings. I cycle in wearing my shorts and flip flops and get showered and changed when I get there. As it's all provided including the shoes and coat for bad weather it'll save me some money too.

It sounds like you are enjoying your new job Phot's, at least with being supplied with a uniform, you can spend the cash you would have spent on clothes on garden stuff insteadWink

Ouch Miranda, your incident with the hot knife sounds much worse than my blister, it's not quite so sore this morning but I think I'll have a go at popping it with a needle later on so it can heal up more quickly.  It might take a while as I'm not left handed and I wouldn't trust anyone around here to do it as they would inflict pain on purpose.

We had a small amount of rain overnight, it's quite muggy but it's nice and bright and about the right temperature for me to go an do some deadheading later.

That sounds interesting, Phot's. It's a beautiful ship, isn't it. I think I'd enjoy the dressing up bit if it was for the old fashioned costumes. It's good that they provide all your clothes - that'll save a few bob!

    We crossed, Sue.

The knife thing wasn't too bad, because I let go very quickly! If you do have some lavender oil about then that really does help and you'll smell nice as well. It's antiseptic and pain relieving and good for small burns. I keep some in the first aid kit.

It's cooled down a lot here and is quite grey. Makes a nice change, to be honest with you. There's only so much wall to wall sunshine you can put up with Wink

It sounds like you dropped the knife quicker than I put down the dish Miranda.  I haven't got any lavender oil but I'll get some and keep it for future use in case I do the same stupid thing again.  I popped the blister with a needle and sprayed some antiseptic on it and it's healing up nicely now.

Last night was quite muggy and it's cooled down an awful lot here, we have a rather strong breeze and cloudy skies today.

Good your finger is healing Sue1002 - I wonder how easy it would be to make your own lavender oil? I've got loads of it in a side garden. How do I go about getting Firefox - is there a cost? I'm sick of IE and have loads of problems with emailing attachments!

Love the hat Miranda, you look like you could be in the paddy fieldsWink

Your new job sounds really interesting Phot's - Digger mentioned pirates, but I wonder if you'll get any handsome sailors on board!!!!

I've just ordered some electric dog clippers off the internet - they've cost 150squid - but I reckon if I can do it OK it will save me a fortune in dog grooming fees, now that we've got two of them! Portia costs £40 every three months or so. I got some cheapies (£20) off ebay and have had a couple of practices on poor Portia, but I'm quite pleased with the results - hopefully it can only get better with practice!
