Chili plants on the windowsill?? That makes me ask, just how big are your plants, Phot's and Sue1002?? Mine were a little more than 2 feet high and about as wide, so I left them to the elements. I really don't like overwintering things in this house but am overwintering helliotrope and agapanthus this year. Two of the agapanthus are turning yellow, but the 3rd is thriving. Baffling.
I llike amaryllis, and got one last year as a bulb. It flowered in February and it has had stems all year till recently. I am trying to get it to flower again, so I cut away the stalks and put the bulb in the refridgerator till the first week of December, at which time I will pot it up again. With any luck, there will be flowers again. I think it is a "Minerva", pink and white steaked cultivar. It was supposed to be a "Red Lion",. Bummer.

Hi Foxnfirefly
I have an amarylis but simply left in the pot after deheading in the greenhouse. I've now brought in inside and the leaves are in good condition, hoping to see a flower bulb soon.
We're supposed to have a dry spell this pm, fingers crossed. Last of the bulbs to plant. I know the hardy Carol Klein plants in the rain, I'm not that enthusiastic. Have you all noticed, by the way, she's not been at Berryfields? Re my previous thoughts on this.

The chilli plants I have on the windowsill Foxnfirefly are just under a foot high and wide, I left the bigger ones in the greenhouse as I knew they would be too big to bring indoors, I wouldn't have been able to let down the blind without damaging them. It's supposed to dry up here this afternoon too Beebee, and I'm not too keen on planting in the rain either. I have done it during late spring and summer to get plants settled in but not at this time of year. Re CK, I think most of her slots have been done from home, I read somewhere that it's to save on travelling time.

We've got sunshine here today but it's quite cold still in the shade. The talk we had last night was very informative. The speaker knew lots about gladioli's for exhibition and how to propagate them. The next speaker is in December speaking about begonias. My seeds from Robinson's have arrived safe and well, I'm going to get the soil samples sent off this week, so I can begin preparing for planting time which should be sometime in April for onions, until then they will be kept undercover in the heated greenhouse.

The sun has only just come out here. I sowed some gladioli seeds last year that I collected off one that went to seed and so far it looks like I might get one bulb out of the lot of them.

Sunny here too today - and actually quite warm working, when you're not in the shade. I've put all the gunnera's to bed for winter this morning, hacking off the leaves to use as insulation and then putting some fleece on top of that!
Am very interested to hear what you learn from your Dec speech on Begonia's Digger. I took some cuttings last week, but think I left it too late, as they seem to be rotting in the pots, even tho' I've got them all in the kitchen!
I just KNEW Sue1002 that you would have got the envelopes for next to nothing

I only overwinter the smaller bushy plants and prune back any that are too big or straggly to fit onto the windowsill. I don't have a greenhouse, so windowsills are my only option.
Whether you think you can do a thing, or think you cannot, you are right.

I've pruned back some of the chillies that are in the greenhouse, the ones that haven't got many chillies left on them. The sun didn't last long here - about half an hour at the most before it started spitting with rain again. You've been busy Susiq, the only thing gardening wise I've done today is sorting out my seeds and working out what I had spare to put on the other thread I started earlier, some have been allocated already

I told Mark that I need a deeper kitchen window and he started laughing when I told him why....then shook his head.....LOL Has anyone else heard the rumour that we may get the dreaded *s* (snow) word this weekend?? I have been working till dark to get these crocosmia in and hope to have them all done by then...but if not going to just plastic and freeze cloth them and hope for the best... I wish we had an allotment!! That would solve all our problems!!! And I could grow a veg plot too...oh well to dream..
if you clear it, plant it....the weeds will come!! So plant more!!!

And I love the stuff. Perhaps digger would prefer to be in Australia at the moment, although it's wet over there it's warmer Is anyone else watching it?

I didn't know anything about the locust swarm digger, I was on about "I'm a Celeb" where one of the camps got flooded out in last night's one.
