If it's icy out, I prefer to be indoors reading gardening books and looking at plant catalogues. (Not buying anything, obviously - she adds hurriedly in case OH is reading this)

Lovely piture of Sally Digger - she's gorgeous, she's got a very 'kind' look to her face.
I don't know about ice, but I came a cropper yesterday afternoon while I was picking the last of the broad beans, the ground was SO wet, as I walking away from the veggie beds which are at the top of a slope, down I slid and twisted my knee, was awake half the night with the pain! Anyway took some painkillers when I got up and they've helped.

Youch susiq, i'll bet that hurt I have had many an episode with slips and falls. Thank for your nice words about Sally, she is a brilliant dog and companion, if i drop anything she will come and pick it up for me and she can even help me when i get dressed in a morning! we got her as a puppy from social services and she learned her techniques here at home with some additional help from an instructor, she has got two brothers who are in the police force, i think they find drugs in peoples cars and houses, she also has three sisiters one is an assistance dog like my Sally one is a guide dog and the other is a pet as far as we know. Sally came from a specialist dog breeder. She can run really fast and has a big loud bark whenever anyone comes down the garden path, she sleeps sometimes on the couch upside down with all her fangs hanging out, I will take a picture next time she does it, we have two other dogs Piper is a naughty patterdale terrier and Richard is a Staffordshire bull terrier, they don't really do anything these days so they are just for stroking really. Sally can even answer the telephone when it rings, she can't take a message or anything but she will bring the telephone to me when it rings, I sometimes wish she could make me a coffee but I can't have everything

Hope the knee feels ok soon Susiq. Sasha does the same as Sally does, it looks really funny when she's laying on the sofa with her head upside down and her top lip hanging loose showing her teeth.

Thanx, have just had to take some more paracetamol, things always happen at the worst time - I was planning to blitz the place today in readiness for OH son's visit on Wednesday. Will have to hope it improves a lot by tomorrow!
Yes they are so funny when they're upside down - Portia lies, it has to be said in THE MOST unladylike fashion Sally sounds like a godsend Digger. I did have a bank manager friend many years ago, who's dog hated the smell of whisky, when he returned from a 'successful' evening one time and was trying to smother the dog with kisses - he ended up in hospital having his bottom lip stitched back on - he never did try that one again!
Well its overcast and quite cold today, I'm hoping to have enough tomatoes ripen tomorrow to make a lovely delia roast tomato soup!

Poor you Susiq, I can sympathise. I am having a bad day with my back again today, no gardening! Ive tried not taking so many painkillers today but it is not working! Thats 4 weeks now with my bulged disc and the doctor said 6 so only 2 more to go!!! I have been off for a week which has been nice but I am back at work tomorrow. It has been raining on and off again today and now it is very windy, might get partner to cut the grass when he gets home if it stays dry. (he just doesnt no it yet)
Sally looks a lovely dog Digger. My partner had 2 great danes when I first met him. Huge but really soft! Unfortunately they were old and the last one had to be put down last year, a very sad day but kinder for her as she was really struggling. I miss the walks we used to have (or should I say sprints the size of her)
I think I am going to do an RHS certificate level 1 at college, I am just waiting to hear from them.

The bigger breed dogs usually are the more softer ones I have found, we sometimes come across a great dane over the park and when it runs you can feel the ground shaking underneath.
Is this similar to the way Portia lays Susiq? Any female dog I've come across tends to lay the same way and although in this pic Sasha was heavily pregnant, it is her usual way of laying

Talking of funny facial expressions, these are a sequence of photos that were taken when she was given a chew one evening

We couldn't help laughing when we saw the pics developed.

I have put a reply after Jo's post but it's gone to be moderated, might be because I'd included a few photos on it?

Your back sounds extremely painful Jo, I can empathise. When my back used to 'go' the pain was horrendous. I wouldn't hold up too much hope for getting the lawn cut tonight tho' - its getting really black up here and looks as tho' its heading your way too!
Hope the moderator releases your piccies soon Sue1002 - I am now getting really frustrated at not having a digi camera, don't know if I'll be able to hold out until chrimbo! I'll just have to do loads more competitions!!!!

Hi all, yes it's sad when the dogs pass away, my first dog archie died and i was heartbroken it was terrible. As for bad backs i think all gardeners will get them, I was injured many years ago and my back has been painful ever since my sciatic nerve was badly damaged and it fair made my eyes water, that's why I've Sally to help me out now. I now see that the moderators are giving you some grief sue1002, the other week i was moderated and then they put the post up four times, there was no pictures with my post so I e mailed admin and asked them what the problem was re censorship, moderating and stuff? they never did get back to me but the post was as written with no editing done, maybe from time to time they just randomly check posts? I can understand if someone was putting a picture on that didn't quite have a relevant theme or was for adults only, but this is a gardening site we don't do "mischief" on here, well maybe now and again we do.

There were five photos on the same post that I posted, it's the only reason I can think of for it being moderated, perhaps it made the post a bit too long, I don't know.

Think your right Susiq its clouding over now! We had 2 hours max of sun that must be our quoter for today. The grass will have to wait for another day. Managed a bit dead heading. Everything is looking a bit sorry for itself now with all the rain and strong winds, its more like October than August!
My back is very painfull, even normal every day things become difficult. Its so frustrating though not being able to do much in the garden. I did try the other day with the bind weed but suffered for the following 2 days so my partner confined me to barracks!

My sympathies to everyone with bad backs, dodgy knees and other achey bits I was very nearly seriously injured myself a minute ago - I could have fallen off my chair because I was laughing so hard at Digger denying all knowledge of getting up to mischief!
