As the question is raised from time to time how to add pictures to this Forum I am detailing below the Admin notice on how it is done

It may seem a bit tortuous but it is a sensible way to stop pictures containing Spam being posted directly on to the Forum

HOW to ADD pictures to RHS FORUMS

Dear all, I was approached by a member of MyGarden who had a query regarding the addition of pictures to posts in the forums. I thought others might find a quick step-by-step guide on the subject useful too.

The best way to add pictures to posts is by using an online photo gallery like flickr (www.flickr.com) or photobucket (http://photobucket.com) to upload your pictures and then copy them to your posts on the MyGarden forums. Step by step:

    1. Upload your picture to an online gallery

    2. Once uploaded, right-click on the picture in the gallery and select Copy

    3. Go to your forum post in MyGarden (in Compose/Edit mode), right-click into the message window in the location where you wish the picture to appear and select Paste. The picture should be inserted into your post.

There is one drawback of this method: if you move or delete the photo from your online gallery it will disappear from your post in MyGarden.

I recommend you create a special subfolder in your flickr or other gallery and make copies of your photos there to link on MyGarden.

    Best wishes,

    Admin

Unfortunately it doesn't appear to work with Flickr. See attempt above. Link is posted, which allows the picture to be viewed in Flickr, but no picture appears within the post. The problem with this is that it allows people to view the wholeset of photos not thespecific one.

Thanks Nigel. What browser are you using? Looking through the many issues we have with Chrome I see that it was not working with Chrome but does with IE. Yes the public viewing is a worry. It didn't do that for me in Photobucket but I gave up my Photobucket because I had a similar issue with it.

Nigel I tried IE and got the same as you suggested. Instead of my picture the link showed on here and that took you to all my pictures on Photobucket. I know Minnie detailed a routine for pictures on here. Would she do it again please? poppikin

Poppikin I have tried to find the post I put up last time and have failed to find it. If this works, then let's hope it is the right set of instructions. I have uploaded photos to an album in Flickr but, instead of right-clicking the photo, I have taken the URL and posted it here. I don't think this will then allow full access to all the album or albums I have loaded. Let's see if this works: https://www.flickr.com/photos/minnie77uk/8469812687/in/album-72157632754573857/

Minnie I tried your link and saw your picture. I clicked on Explore at the top left and saw a lot of pictures. Are they yours? I am keen for us to be able to see Forum pictures in one way or another. poppikin

No Explore takes you to a selection of pictures by a variety of people.

No Minnie you can click back to the album and then to your albums and you can then see any album that you have not restricted to Flickr members, contacts or yourself. For example Queries, Polyanthus, Old Pics.

No third party picture host is as good as being able to post pictures direct to the forum. However that requires investment by the RHS.

Nigel have you tried adding pictures as akebi nuts did with excellent results in recent post 'Can you please help identifying this bush?'.

" 'poppikin', I took the photos myself and uploaded them via "add/update attachment" in the options tab." akebi nuts

Reference to Backache was in connection with the id of the plant in the link posted above.

Thanks Nigel. It would help if you put it on the id thread so that the poster knows of your response.
