Can anyone please tell me if Abutilon can be grown in pots. I would like to give it a try. They won't grow here. The RHS said it was because it will grow in almost all conditions but does not like my clay. I have been offered an orange one. poppikin

Hi poppikin, should be ok if you follow the usual rules for container grown plants regarding watering and feeding. Abutilon in a pot may be more susceptible to frost damage around the roots so may need some insulation in winter. What type of Abutilon is it? Blackstart

Thank you Blackstart. I don't know what type it is. When they said Orange flowers I thought there was only one? poppikin

I have a good picture of it and pity we can't post them. It is a reddish colour which I think is the common one. The people giving it to me say it was there when they bought their house and flowers profusely for several months a year. I am going to try it in a pot and am getting it later today. I am looking forward to it. Thanks for help. poppikin

I was given two of these which were cuttings and they have done remarkably well in pots. We have been having very hard frosts here on the North Downs so I was surprised to see that both plants have produced quite a number of flower buds. Is this usual at this time of year? poppikin
