A poverty stricken local farmer sold a field at the back of where I live to speculators who built an estate bordering my back garden where I have a wallnut tree that hangs over the gardens of the rabbit houses that were built.

Sooner or later there will be complainst so could anyone please let me know what time of the year one shold prune such trees?

Assuming this is quite a large tree; I would get a properly qualified tree surgeon/aboriculturist to look at it and give you a written report and advice. The time to do it is between now and the autumn.
