The hostas I have in pots are doing great thanks to the occasional spray of wd40 around the ouside of said pot. Most of the ones in the ground are nearly gone - eaten away. The big one out front that is far too big and has to go survived a dose of glyphosate.

"What about using alcohol-free beer so that there's no health risks for the birds? " I don't know for sure, but I suspect that it is the smell of the alcohol (rotting fruit and all that) which attracts the slugs

That telephone conversation in full "Good morning Mirken, Ken speaking." "Hello, I'd like a plain brown one and a day-glo pink one for a party I'm attending." "I'm sorry, sir, but this is Mir-KEN. We can supply you with chopped up slugs." "You disgust me." "I disgust you?" click Repeat

I'm going to set up a rival minced slug/bird feed company and call it "Pubic Wigs." Can't fail

Hmm, having looked at urbandictionary.com, an adjustment of the company name could be in order, Ken. We could just transpose the syllables - Kenmir. Other'n that, the Royal Appointment bit sounds great.

I'm feeling left out of this one! Can you add something to the recipe to make this slug-based bird food lethal to pigeons otherwise they will be even fatter and more of a nuisance!

Tricky that one, Ant., we will probably need research finance..I'll write for a grant from the EU...then we'll need a swiss roll account to hide the profits.

Rather than adding a pigeon-lethal ingredient, we could expand our range and offer pigeon-proof feeders. They'd probably be very similar to squirrel-proof ones, of course, but with a different name on them. Hmm, Ken Muir. Have to think about that one, Ken.
