My garden was quite boring. It was just lawn with Leylandii planted round the edges. It was dark & dismal & even the weeds struggled to grow under the Leylandii.

I cut all the Leylandii down a while ago & really all I've done since is try & keep it weed free & planted bedding plants to liven it up abit..

I decided this year I was going to re-vamp it, mainly because I couldn't keep the lawn nice due to the dogs & I hated mowing :)

    April 2012

The Start - April 2012, What the garden looked like

    Finished - June 2012

Finished, After the garden had been finished - Still WIP :)

It's still a bit flat until the plants in the raised border & rockery take off. I've done the work myself so I'm well pleased with it. There's a 20x10' paved area which I laid myself & that's just used for the table & chairs etc. Next to that I have some 'decking' that I made from wooden pallets. They've currently got plants in pots on. I trimmed a tree down in the corner of the garden & made a trellis out of the long thinnish branches for sweet peas. They got planted late, so I'm not expecting great things from them.

I'll post a picture of decking after this post...

It's been done on a budget. I love my garden but haven't the money to do anything too expensive :) Any suggestions welcome.

You've done a wonderful job with your garden Jules, once those plants in the borders really take off, they will soon fill the space upBig Smile

Lovely! We had a similar sized garden at our last house and did something like yours, and it made such a difference. Could you put some sort of hanging baskets on the posts to give some interest up there while you're waiting for things to grow - I bought a load at Asda a few years ago at this time of year as they wanted rid of them so they were only 25p each, worth looking out for similar bargains elsewhere. Also, this spring we bought some good plants in Morrisons - dahlias and geraniums ready to pot on and some ready planted terracotta pots for £5 each which gave some good instant colour on the patio.

Hi - Thanks for the nice comments.

We went to Southport flower show & bought some rather nice hanging 'bag's full of white & purple petunia's. They look rather good. We just hung those on the washing line post at the end.

Hanging baskets is something I intend doing but maybe next year when I see how my seed going exploits go..

The plants are taking off now & the border at the back is looking at bit better. The pots are filling out now & the rockery plants are doing OK as is my wee 'dog bed' rockery..

I have a purple & a white cosmos & I'm quite impressed with them. They haven't stopped flowering..

I'm glad I got back into my gardening :)
