Apart from drowning, what is wrong with my pear tree ? I have scoured pictures of scab and other fungals to see if this is it - i think it is likeliest but am not sure. The leaves are lovely and shiny except they are turning black. There are no lesions, bumps, stickyness, spores, sootiness, etc its just they are turning black . Anyway I would be grateful for any help. At the moment I keep cutting off the affected parts but wonder if this will harm the tree ? Can I just leave it ? I dont think it will affect my MASSIVE crop of two bitter wee pears.

No lesions? The cold and wind can cause blackening of pear leaves. It also could be fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) causing the leaves to blacken. Check out the RHS website: www.rhs.org.uk/advicesearch/profile.aspx?pid=160
