    Does anyone have any experience growing Rock Samphire (Crithmum Maritimum)?  I was taken by this vegetable when visiting a friend near Gt. Yarmouth & decide to try to grow some.  I purchased seed from one vendor & small plants from another.

    I'm 95% certain I followed the instructions properly, but the seed did not germinate at all & the small plants are just barely surviving - definitely not growing.

    Has anyone been along this learning curve before?

    The samphire which grows on the East Anglian coast and is eaten as a veg grows in salt marshes which are subject to tidal flooding. I too have seen it for sale somewhere but was not tempted to buy. Salt marsh is not going to be easy to reproduce in the garden -but is rock samphire different?

     Morning

    The samphire from the salt marshes is a different plant to Rock Samphire. The marsh samphire is Salicornia europaea. I have eaten both raw and cookedwhen in Lincolnshire. It is ridiculously overpriced when seen in shops. I believe it is an annual. A couple of companies offer seeds if you want to try it. It is also called glasswort and was used as a source of soda for glassmaking in the middlea ages.
