I seem to remember reading in The Garden a while back about a pest affecting box plants that can leave webbing and lead to defoliation.  Can anyone remember or just tell me what this pest might be?  I have a client who has several box balls around the garden, and two suffered with webbing and defoliation last year and now have two rather bald areas, thankfully at the back.  Unsure yet if areas affected are dead or if they'll resprout leaves.

Can anyone help me identify this, and tell me if there's anything to be done - any spray that could help perhaps?  These box balls are near lots of other plants.

All the info you need is here - bad news for box - it would appear the entomoogists at the RHS would like to know where the pest is. It is the only insect likley to cause webbing and defoliation.

Thanks for that information. It is exactly what I was looking for, albeit rather unwelcome for the box plants.
