We've seen examples of fasciated plants on here before but I've never come across veg that has been affected. One of my courgette plants is producing fasciated courgettes on the lower part of the plant

and a stem which will produce two male flowers
At present, it's only lower down on the plant that has these double courgettes and the growth above these appear 'normal', I guess it will be interesting to see if this plant performs any different to the other one and at present, my other plant only has one tiny courgette on it.

I have had many misshapen courgettes from my 3 Black Hawk F1 climbing plants which are growing up a tripod. I am putting this down to the fact that although they have been fruiting now for a month I have yet to see a male flower. The mishapen fruit basically are shaped like a traffic cone. This is my first year with this variety as I have grown Black Forest f1 for the last 3 years without problem. Serves me right for changing my seed supplier.
Some of fruit are quite bitter whilst others are perfectly acceptable to the palate. I can only tell which are good and which are not upon preparing for cooking.
Sorry I cannot post any pictures as I am not clever enough to fit a film into my I phone.

I changed varieties this year too and am now growing 'Defender' instead of the 'Black Forest' that I grew last year and the year before, only my BF didn't perform as well as was advertised and only one plant out of the 6 actually climbed like it was supposed to.

That's interesting. I have to admit that I have always had to get mine into the climbing habit by tying the leader closely to the support. A bit of a bind but it does mean mud free and visible courgettes.

Ha ha Sue, they do say 'two heads are better than one'! No, seriously, I haven't seen that before, they look healthy enough though!

That's interesting Youngstan knowing that you had to teach the Black Forests to climb, I'd originally gone for that variety because they're supposed to do better in pots as I don't have the space in the garden for 'sprawling' veg. The Defender this year are doing so much better this year already compared to how the BFs did. Yes Susiq, they certainly do look healthy and might be big enough for harvesting at the end of the week
