Hope the anti inflammatories work for Portia SusiqRight Hug  and that an op won't be needed.

Ha, I didn't quite get my timings right with the watering cans today, I wasn't quite quick enough on coming back from up the garden on a couple of occasions and a bit flowed out.

I didn't feel like doing a full hot dinner today in this heat so I just made a quiche earlier on this afternoon and we had that cold with some salad.

Don't talk to me about wateringAngry, it took me flippin ages to do the garden with watering cans. I did notice though while doing the hanging tomato baskets that there is a tiny tomato thereSmile.

Morning all, it's pretty much the same here again today with the breeze helping to cool things down a bit.  When I opened the greenhouse up a little while ago, I looked at the thermometer, which goes up to 50°C, and found it had gone over that mark in there yesterdaySurprise and that is with the door open, the windows and vents fully open.

It won't be long now til you get some toms from the sound of it lillyroseYes, the only tomato plants I have that has got flowers on them at the moment are the tree tomatoes but then I did start those ones off about a month before I started all the others off.

Going to have a rummage in the first bucket of new potatoes today to see if any are ready.

Baggsy that first tomato LillyroseWink Enjoy your time in the shade today, that is where I've been too, being as I got somewhat burnt yesterday weeding the delph bedSurprise We've got some lovely colours with the red hot pokers and yellow flag lillies putting on a good show this week. That said - the weeds are putting on much more of a showSuper Angry

I've been leaving the GH doors and windows open overnight this last few days Sue, and there hasn't been any 'ill-effect' on the plants - so far! Hope you managed to get some decent spuds for dinner today.

Roast chicken tonight, but it is just sooooo hot, I think I'd like a salad more!

Good evening one and all. I have been so busy today with one thing and another, dinner, sorting out the freezer and in the garden I will have  a good read of the posts tonight when it is cooler and catch up then.

What a job I had today with changing the door on the new freezer so it hinged the other way I had to get underneath it to get at the screws!!! and it was so hot in the garage too. Anyway will catch up later hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather.Cool

Yes thanks lillyrose and Susiq, I did find some lovely spuds in the first bucket I'd planted up, some were bigger than the usual first early size that I think they would have been ready well over a week ago, I was a bit slow on the uptake there wasn't I?Wink

That's very brave of you to be leaving your greenhouse door open at night Susiq, I haven't been quite that brave yet but I have left some tomato plants outside overnight that have now finished hardening off and they seem ok.

Sounds like you had a bit of a job changing the door over Richard, I think you deserve a good strong Beer nowSmile

I've spent a lot of the day in the garden and got half the weeding done in the front (until it got too hot for me out there as it was in full sun) and I've just been outside pruning back the Spirea, as it was overcrowing the Ceanothus, and have been bitten on my foot, I hope it doesn't swell up as much as Miranda's arm did recently.

Well I have just been reading the posts. You are doing well with your potatoes Sue I haven't any flowers on mine yet but they are growing well. I had a glass of cider after seeing to the fridge door Sue as I got so hot (that's my excuse anywayWink)

I have been leaving my GH door open too Susiq and the plants seem ok in there. We had roast chicken today too and yesterday afternoon we had a barbecue in the garden with some of the meat that got defrosted when the freezer packed up.

That was a bit of a task doing your garden with a watering can lillyrose our hosepipe ban has been lifted now so I hope yours will be too before too long. That tasty steak salad will have replaced the energy you lost doing the wateringStick out tongue! Here is what Nicola has been doing lately lillyrose with her cakes, She has a page on Facebook now for her cakes...

Oh Susiq that was unlucky to get all those bites on your backSurprise maybe they were midges if you had your back uncovered in the garden during  the evening..Confused

Hope your arm is better now Miranda I will know what to expect now if I get bitten by a horsefly...

Morning all, it's another hot one here today and things are supposed to start cooling down again from tomorrow, that can't come soon enough for meWink

My potatoes (Swift) didn't flower Richard, I found they didn't last year either so that variety obviously isn't one that does flower readily, well not for me anywaySmile  I'll empty out bucket number two today, there should be some nice size ones in there too and I'll save the others for later on in the week.

I'm going to get the rest of the front garden weeded while it's still in the shade.

    Morning all.

Yes, Richard, my arm is pretty much better now; just a scabby patch left. I've probably been going a bit overboard with the repellent but rather that than another horsefly bite. Sorry to hear you've been bitten too, Susiq. Piriton is your friend!

I'm also looking forward to some cooler weather - being out in this every day is just too hot. Very glad of my light cotton shirt and broad-brimmed hat, but the combo of sunscreen and repellent gets grimed up really quickly and washing it off is really slimey.

We spent Saturday planting up someone's front garden and it looked really good at the end of it. It's a hot spot, so I did a planting plan of Lavender, Santolina, golden oregano, creeping thyme, bronze fennel, dark red Heuchera, Geranium phaeum and Libertia 'Gold Leaf' all set in Cotswold stone chippings. There are Sedums, rosemary and purple sage around the edges. Looking forward to seeing it come on :-)

Off out now for another baking...

It's too hot out there for me now, I've finished the weeding in the front garden.  I won't be going out there again until it's cooled down and give all the pots and baskets a good watering.

The garden you were working on on Saturday sounds fab Miranda, it would be lovely to see a pic once it's got going.  Yes, I can see the combination of sunscreen and insect repellent making a gooey mess, are there any sunscreens about that have the insect repellent in them (I know Avon used to do one a few years ago but don't know if they still do it).

I'll take a picture, Sue. I did take some on Saturday but the plants are still fairly small, so it doesn't look like that much, and the glare from the late afternoon sun didn't do the pics any favours either; once they've settled and filled out a bit, it will be better. I forgot to mention Erodiums - some of those went in as well.

Yes, there was one by Avon and it's supposed to be very good. Keep meaning to look into it but haven't got round to it! I've been using this 'Jungle Formula' stuff and that works well.

It's supposed to be cooling down a bit after today, so should be more comfortable for all of us.

Hiya everyone, well this morning was scorchio, but boy has the weather turned this afternoon - the temperature has dropped loads!

Wow Richard, Nicola's facebook page looks amazing, thanks for the link, that Mr&Mrs cake is STUNNINGBig Smile Ya never know,er when's the next Royal Wedding planned?Wink Glad you finally got the new freezer sorted, bet the cider went down a treat!

Looks like you have got a 'bumper' crop of tatties there Sue, well done you.

Your planting sounds beautiful Miranda for the place you did on Saturday, I'd love to see a piccy too. Yes, I've been overdosing on the insect repellent stuff too - Funnily enough, you and Sue mentioned the Avon stuff - a guy in the pub yesterday (while I was boring everyone with my 'bitten tales of woe' said the one the fishermen all use, is called 'skin so soft' by Avon, and its not even advertised as a repellent!

    You look happy there LillyroseWink

Cold chicken and salady type stuff for us tonight! I've ordered a load of porous piping irrigation stuff for the poly today, that will (hopefully) help my leeks on their way, if I'm not too late in getting them planted onTongue Tied
