Last year I stored some "Bonfire" tubers over winter and they gave an even bigger and better display this year.

Last year I cut all hard and soft growth back to the tops of the tubers before storing and all this year's new growth came directly from the tubers.

This year, on one of them I have a few good solid main stem up to 15cm high with lots of healthy branches which gave a huge display of flowers and I'm reluctant to cut them back to the tuber in case there's any chance that some of next year's growth could sprout from these stems and give me an even more spectacular display next year.

Has anyone tried this and if so can you give me any suggestions on what is the best thing to do to encourage an even more impressive plant next year?

If not,I guess I have to explore the unknown and see what happens. If I do I'll let you know the outcome.

I stored some Begonia tubers last year for the first time too and they gave a better display this year than they did last.  It was a good two to three weeks ago that I took them out of the baskets and the tubers are larger now than they were when they were planted up so I would expect them to produce an even better display last year.

When I looked at mine this morning, the stems I had cut back have now actually fallen away from the tubers which I think may happen anyway if you left the stems on.
