I have pathways made of wood chipping (laid over black garden weed suppressant material) dividing the raised beds in the vegtable patch, the paths have been in place for three years and in the last few weeks there has been a large amount of fungi growing , i have disposed of this and would like to stop it from re growing, does anyone think it might be ok to water a weak solution of disinfectant over the path , and would this kill off the spores.

Do you have any holes in the weed supressant where the fungi was Littleacorn- or was it growing on top of the material? You sometimes see this fungi growing on old wood, chopped down trees etc. I had a car once and noticed some fungi growing on the front carpet near the accelerator pedal. When I pulled up the carpet I noticed it was damp and then  saw a hole in the floor. The carpet was getting wet from the water spraying off the front wheel -not sure where the spores came from though! Smile

The spores will be everywhere, in the wood itself and blown in on the wind. I wouldn't fret about it, Littleacorn. If you water something over it then once that has washed away, the fungi will probably grow again. Is it worrying you?

Miranda thanks for you reply, its not worrying me as much as it is a bit of an eyesore, what I am more suprised about is that the chipping path has been down for three years and this is the first time the fungi have grown, I wouldn't want the fungi to spread to the vegtable beds. It also has quite a strong smell which is not unpleasant.
