    I am interested in setting up a Garden Design Business but before I commit my savings I want to know, on average, what sort of turnover a 'one man band' design and construct business would do in a year and what sort of margin one would expect. Obviously I want to know what the earning potential is as I have commitments like mortgage, young family etc. I have spoken to the Society of Garden Designers and they do not hold any stats like this which is a bit frustrating.

    Try posting on www.landscapejuicenetwork.com for some advice.  This is a site full of practising designers and design and construct businesses and the members are very helpful.
